What would be the best kind of shocks to put on my '76 F-150 4x4?
I do some fairly serious offroading once in a while, but mainly
use it as a daily driver with some hauling.
Whatever you do, dont even look at superlift shocks, they are aweful. I just replaced my front ones after 1,000 miles because they are that bad. I replaced them with rancho RS 5000s and ride is great. Basically the same as the 9000s except you can't adjust them.
Primary rig is:
95' F-150 EB 300/6 5 spd with 4" Superlift, MSD, Ram Air, Gibson Exhaust, and coming are some BFG MEATS
Then theres:
88' F-250 Superduty 351 + c6
92' Thunderbird 3.8L V-6 FOR SALE!
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 and a
3 spd column shifter baby.
The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L
I just bought some Rancho 5000s at O'Reilly auto parts. I beleive they were about 36 bucks a piece for a 94 Bronco with 4 inch lift. This also included new shock bushings and boots for the shocks. I mention this because I know some manufacturers charge extra for these items.
Definitly the ranchos. The 5000s are great, but if you have extra coin the 9000s are awesome...dial em down for off road whoops, and then soften them back up for the highway.
I was going to go with the 9000's for my 86 F150 4x4 and I was told they were way to stiff. I ended up going with Heavy Duty Ford Shocks and man o man are they good, maybe it is because they had not been changed in a long while but they just coast over the bumps when I am wheeling.
Well, whoever told you that was smoking wacky tobaccy. My buddy has them on his van of all things, and if he dials them down to their softest setting they are waaay plush. Thats what makes them so cool, you can adjust them out any way you want. Of course, they also have that little in-cab unit so you don't have to get out to adjust them too.
Best shocks ????
It is just a matter of preference I have run Rancho, Edelbrock, and bilstein I go off-roading and rock and hill climbing all the time and right now I run good old Monroe Gas Magnums on my truck front and back and they work just fine loaded off-roading and going down the street. they are alot cheaper than the others and also have the lifetime warranty and so I just go to Checker give them the old one and they give me a new one NO problems.
