Time to Split the SD Forum?

I keep looking for info on 2008 and 2009 Super Duty but keep finding tons on the earlier models. Is there anyway we could separate/split the different generations of Super Dutys on this forum?

Well try this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum169/ if you don't see something start a thread. Are you having issues or wanting to ask something about a gas motor issue?

well considering the 2008 is still the minority here, it makes sense that the pre-08's have more content. The way it's broken down by Superduty here..then by engine below, makes a LOT of sense...esp since a lot of pre 08 and 2008/2009 body and chassis issues are similar.

The reason that there's not a lot of info on the newer trucks?

No one has asked about them yet!

So ask, and name your threads using 2008 or 2009 so others can search for them later.

Thanks for the heads up. No issues here. Just thought it would be more efficient.

If you post non-6.4 diesel topics there... I will move them back here.

I might be a fan of splitting off pre 1999.5 trucks. But everything with the SD badge after that model year is basically the same.

I don't know the platforms that well-I've never owned one. But that's kind of what I had in mind....

1999.5 was when the truck changed body styles from the old squared up Heavy Duties to the real SD platform that we have now. A LOT of stuff changed, like the frame, axles, body, etc. It was basically a brand new platform. I think the 7.3 IDI was the biggest holdover. The 6.9L IDI was gone by then right?

In 2008, mainly the styling changed with the engine. The 350/450 had some changes on the front axle, but it was in essence the same truck that was there in 2007. Kind of like the 04-05 changes on the front end cosmetics.

Engines change pretty quick though, like the two valve to three valve 5.4s and 6.8s, and the 7.3 IDI to 7.3 turbo to 6.0 to 6.4.

I think if you split them down, you won't have more information nor will you have more posts, you'll just have the same number of people split into two different forums and less people in each.

Later...
Brewster...

I'm thinking that if the pre 2000 and post 2000 trucks are so different, it would make more sense to split them.

I would like to point out that the IDI engines were gone by 94 when they started building the turbo powerstroke (the first powerstrokes in 93.5 were actually converted 7.3 IDI's) after 94 the turbo engines the heads were changed to became DI or direct injection heads. No IDI engines were ever used on the SD platform.

You're right - the 6.9 left after the '87 model year. In 1988, the 7.3 IDI non turbo came out and if I remember right, it was rated at 180 hp and 340 tq. In 1994, there was a 7.3 IDI with a turbo that ran for that model year that was rated at slightly more hp/tq than the 7.3 non-turbo. In 1995, the 7.3 got the full on turbo treatment and I believe the DI started then and the hp rating was around 215 I think. In 1999, with the advent of the SD trucks, the 7.3 was upgraded and produced 235 hp / 500 tq. If memory serves me, the last year of the 7.3 was 2003 when there were 7.3 and 6.0 trucks available. That year, the 7.3 was rated at 275 hp / 505 tq for the manual and 250 hp / 525 tq. for the auto.
