I could care less about the tailgate step, as I'm still fairly agile. I am also 6'2", and can't reach into the bed or toolbox unless its real close. I like the sidestep, haven't seen one in person yet though.
I saw it but didn't order it. It was ugly and I don't need access to the front of the bed.
please please please don't change the bed.....i love my super deep bed......
Completely agree.
Umm, Why not build a truck that You can actually reach into the bed? Even with the side step. Try getting a circular saw, that has slid to the center, out off the floor of the bed.
Two reasons I can think of:
1. it's NOT a lowrider. When you put weight on a suspension, like my 9k lb loaded trailer, it sinks down a bit. Would NOT want to scrape something or get hung up. And NO, I do NOT want an F250, as I don't want the MPG penalty for the running around town I do 80% of the time.
2. It's been done. Look at a Chevy Silverado, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan frontier, etc. MOST, if not ALL competing trucks have shallower beds than our F150s. NONE of them sell as well as the F150. I wonder why...
It would be interesting to see the stats. For some people its a selling point (such as you), for others its a turn off (me). I'd rather not have to use a step to reach the bottom of the bed from the outside (I'm 5' 11').
I personally love the deep bed. A good buddy of mine has a 2007 F-150 that we take camping and we love the fact that we can haul more wood to the campsite because we can stack more inside the deeper bed. It saves on gas because we're not running back to his house 4-5 times a weekend as we keep an almost constant fire.
And NO, I do NOT want an F250, as I don't want the MPG penalty for the running around town I do 80% of the time.
I hate to break the news to you but what you're driving(a 6000lb truck with a 10k+ towing capacity) was classified as an F250 just a few short years ago, so you're paying the MPG penalty anyway.
yeah, I gotta say, if diesel were reasonably priced, and the EPA didn't choke the new engines to death, a diesel would be a great option....
The only way I could justify stepping up to an F250 would be to get it with the V10...as I don't think the trusty 5.4 would be an improvement. A heavier truck with no more power doesn't seem like it'd fix anything for me. Most I see on FTE talk about the abysmal fuel economy they get with them...which I just can't handle right now!
The long tube headers with high flow catalytic converters, plus a very stout lock-up torque converter (completely new, built transmission with an 11 inch 100 cubic inch disc verses the ~40 inch stock disc) really helps highway mileage.
It really blew me away seeing the mileage results after the most recent upgrades, verified with my Scanguage II.
