Bilstien 5100s are good shocks, from what I've heard they do pretty good under a heavy truck (I've only run them under a 1/2 ton chebby with 4 inches of lift). At the very least, don't just buy new stockers. http://www.bilstein.com/offroad.php
Bilstien, Rancho's seem to be the most popular. I have Procomps and have been very happy... As for the ball joints, I have gone with moog on bot the X and my F350. Both I had done I am not that brave. cost was about 500-600
I would go with the Bilstiens also. I am in the process of trying to ffind the Bilstien leveling kit for my truck. I am sure that at 54k its time to replace the stock Rancho shocks. I have always upgraded to the Bilstiens and have ben very happy. As for the Ball Joints just make ssure that you get greaseable ones and you will be ok. If you have a little mechanical ability aand some time then do it yourself and save a ton of money.
Looks like I'll start shopping for some Bilstiens.
Also looked at the ball joint threat. Didn't take long for me to decide that my local dealer is going to get some work. Last car I did ball joints on was 2WD so I was forgetting about the extra hassle of the hubs up front.
