I need to change mine cause there both leaking and rusty... All the local parts stores says for the return just use a rubber hose... but how do I put a rubber hose to the steering box? the medal fitting on the stock return hose is rusty and will brake when i remove it. I ave a 1988 f-150 302. I ahve done this for a 93 f-150 last spring.... so I checked for a return line for a 93 and they have one... so I looked at a picture they had and it loos the same as mine on my 88 f-150.... so it should work, right?
but they want me to use a Bulk rubber hose for the return line.... there is no medal fitting on it to hock it to my steering box. I don't want to use a hose clamp that will leak.
cause even here, LMC Truck Parts - Page 124 , they have showing a bulk rubber hose for my truck... #8. and I need something like #9. Where can I get a line made at online? cause all the shops around here are $$$$.
Not real clear what you want to do, or what your exact question or questions are. Yes the return line is just a plain rubber hose. No pressure in the return line, just flow and no the hose clamps will not leak. Just be sure and use a good clamp the correct size for the line.
You want to use the hose off the 93 on the 88? Yea it should work provided the fitting size at the gear box end is the same size. The pump usually has a hose bib built into it. The metal section, what there is of it coming out of the gear box may also be bent slightly different, no big deal if the fitting size is right.
There's a short rubber section between the hard line and the reservoir, but the rest is hard line and has a fitting that screws into the steering gearbox. This line is rusty and he wants to replace the hard line, not the short rubber section.
I installed the return hardline from a 94 on my 87, so yes, the return line from the 93 should work and fit just fine on your 88.
When I have a hard time finding the correct lines and fittings I just go to an industrial hydrolic line shop and they make exactly what I need, and the last few times I did it even if the parts were available cause it's better stuff and for me was cheaper.

Does your power steering have a long metal bent cooler line between the one end of this return line that comes from the steering box and the other end that goes to the power steering pump? There is apparently no flange on this metal return/cooler line that this return hose attaches to on my truck.I wonder if this metal cooler line was modified by the PO.
I have a 92 F150 5.0 4x4,manual transmission and it has this cooler line on the return hose and my present hose just has radiator type clamps on it to the pump from the cooler line. I cant tell if this hose is factory or has been changed by the PO.
I checked at the NAPA website and it doesnt list a return hose for a F150 4x4 with manual transmission. It seems to suggest using a hose with clamps at each end of the hose.
