Is there any major differences over the years that would make a newer differential not fit in an older rear end?
I have an 87 axle, but need a new carrier, and the carrier i found is a 2000ish.
Spline count: 28
Casting#: F5AW-BB
Other casting markings: 6F05 (Maybe the date?) & WF9
This is the info i have on the newer carrier.
I have a 95, but my axle is from an 87.
The tag said LS on it, but it is an open rear end.
I'm tired of it and a member has this new carrier to use.

The 8.8 is an integral rear axle, which does not use a carrier. A 9" has a carrier, not an 8.8.
What part do you actually need?
If you need the case that the ring gear bolts to, the same one (E7TZ4204E) was used from 1987 thru at least 2001, but after 1996, the axles will be different, because Ford went to metric wheels in 1997.

If the tag said LS,,I would say there's a good chance you just need a rebuild kit for the LS diff.
