Does anyone out there have any experience with these tires? Apparently the "new" MT Radials are much improved over previous designs. I've heard several different opinions on them. Most are very positive, including the research I've done on the internet.
However, I've had a few people tell me that they are overpriced, extrememly stiff riding due to the 3 ply sidewall, and very noisy on road.
Goodyear claims and I've had dealers and the internet back it up, that the tires are the best tire made for gravel and off road travel, are long lasting, and due to "directional tread design" are remarkably quiet on the road.
So any real world experience with these tires that you guys can supply is greatly appreciated before I spring for the nearly $300 a tire that these things go for in Canada.
well any off road tire is gonna be loud on the road, and for the good off road it depends on what you do such as rackcrawlin or mud or what. im not that familiar with these tires though. i know that the good ones did pretty good off road though. they got high ratings and a lot of people use them for just about all types of 4wheelin.
i would seriously check out the BFG Mud Terrain KM's if your looking for an excellent tire. They are just as good if not better than the good year and cheaper too. Mine are fairly quiet, ride nice and give awesome traction both on and off road.
go with the MT/R, they are a much better tire I have a set of both the MT/R and BFG's MT KM's. The MT/R's do ride a little rougher than the bfg's because of the stiffer sidewall, but if you ever do any offroading you'll be glad they are. MT/R actually stands for Maximum Traction/Reinforced, not mud terrain radial. Trust me the name says it all. These tires will hold on to rocks dirt mud and any thing else you put under 'em like gum in your sisters hair, except for icy roads, because of the lack of sipes. But then any Mud tire is like that because of the same reason. The BFG's don't do too bad either, but I'd go with the MT/R's. That's my 2 cents worth.
