I don't think Ford engineers had Alaskans hauling travel trailers through mountains in the snow when they designed the T/H mode! To solve your problem just turn the T/H off. Provided the brakes on your trailer are in good working condition, you should have no problems stopping your rig, no matter what the grade (well, as good as could be expected in your conditions!!)

The engine braking is handy of T/H mode, however it can be a bit of a jolt, if the roads were slippery, on a hill, bend, etc, I could see it causing problems. You're on edge enough during those times, especially with a full load. Last thing you need is a jolt heavy enough to move your back from the seat.
