I have had the skyjacker dual steering stabilizer for about a year now. It helped tighten up the steering of my truck. But I have always disliked that I had to angle the mounting bracket downward so the shocks would not interfere with the tie bar. It reduced ground clearance and looks stupid. I have looked at pictures of trucks online and it appears other trucks had better luck with clearance with the original mounting orientation. Today I swapped the front bracket and it seems like the kit works much better. It does not seem to bind and I can turn more smoothly. Has does everyone else use this kit?
I don't have one on my truck (will be getting one when I get enough for a lift) but have seen two today and both mounted like the second pic. The first pic looks like it is mounted incorrectly.
Here are a few online pictures that depect the mounting. I just want to prove I am not a complete moron with my mounting selection. It just worked better on my truck the other way. Maybe there are some differences between my early 99 and these trucks... Post back when you get your setup installed, it might help others in the future.
Well those instructions are for a Ranch setup. The Skyjacker center mount is slightly different. Thanks though.
I need to move the boots tomorrow to see if the stabilizer is bottoming out at full turn. If it does bottom out I think I can correct the problem by drilling new mounting points on the center mount. I'll post some pics if necessary.
all of those pics seem to be showing the setup the original way you had it setup. I have mine setup the same way that you had yours originally. the second setup is interesting though. what did it change as far as drivability?
Well I guess the original mounting is how skyjacker intended. I prefer the second "backwards" mounting. It created more ground clearance on my truck since the mounting bracket was angled downwards to elimiate the interference. I also like the inline positioning of the stabilizers and that it hides the bulky mounting bracket from everyone's view.
When I first installed the steering stabilizer my girlfrield asked, " You just installed the lift kit and huge tires, but the bottom of your truck is still 5-inches from the ground". Kinda felt like a retard.
I do not notice any differences with driveablity. It might be slightly easier to turn the steering wheel, but it could be my imagination.
I do not have the crossover steering installed yet, but I think the stabilizers will bottom out once it is installed. I know I have lost some of my turning radius from the stock truck setup. I will probably need to move the mounting point closer towards the center on the bracket. I'll post pics when I get around to it.
