Get a timing gear tower with the adapter hole for the tach sensor....... and a tach from a donor truck...... as for wiring etc someone else will hopefully give further instructions.
Gear covers can be used from late 6.9 or 7.3...... Note do not remove the gear cover and IP from your engine together......... remove IP then gear cover leaving gear where it is ..... install new cover then IP. Note mark the timing in the cover and IP before removal and install the mark IP in the same location on the new cover. Will email info.
You need to find an insturment cluster that has a tach in it, the cluster with no tach does not have the printed circuit to run a tach.
Check you IP drive gear cover, you may already have the cover you need, it will have a plug where the tach sensor goes.
Look for the plug in the location in the picture.
Now look around for the tach wire connector, round with two wires in it.
If the connector is there, the truck is wired from there to the connector on the insturment cluster.
it has a bolt were the sender goes, but i didnt see any plug or wires for it, i no what to look for cause my 89 7.3 has a tach, what do i have to do if it aint wired for one?
I will forward the 87 dash info (Pic) by email to you check and see if it is the same as your cluster..... you sent me an email today your on lycos right.
If your truck does not have the plug, you are going to have to run wires from the tach sending unit that you install where the bolt is to the dash mounted tach which you also have to find and install.
Pete was asking if your email addy was at Lycos.com, which is where he sent a picture to.
