Oil Pump removal
I removed the starter and the rest of the pan bolts and was able to lower the pan a few inches but not enough to remove it. So I removed the upper two nuts on top of the motor mounts and raised the engine as much as i could. Now I have much more room and can see the oil pump but cant remove the bolts. looked like the pan was hitting the i-beam suspension so i jacked up the frame so the ibeams were drooping and put the frame on jackstands. Little more room but still can't remove it. Pan is now a good 4 inches off the block but hits the front of the tranny.
My next move is pulling the tranny and flywheel and plate. Seems like then it would slide out. Has anyone removed the pan without pulling the tranny? Any other suggestions?

I have not done this. On older Fords, you could drop the pan and remove the pickup tube bolts, let the pickup drop into the pan, and slide the pan down and back under the bell housing. Installation meant setting the pickup into the pan before pushing it up into place, then reaching inside to bolt on the pickup.
Rangers had a problem with the pan gasket flaking apart and plugging the oil pickup for a while. Lots of readers/writers have stories about their problems. Maybe one of them can relate..
