My dealer installed a Ford "stickered" unit on my '04. Your price sound about right. It's fully integrated with the security system (door lock/unlock and horn alarm). It's a four-button fob (the extra being the remote start) that replaced the factory three button. I love it. I use it almost every day. It has incredible range too, because of the auxiliary antenna placed on the drivers A-pillar.
Excellent. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Too bad it can't just be ordered from the factory like this. Chevy and Dodge come standard this way on their uplevel trucks.
Thanks Taken. I will look into this. My keyfob is six keys with two accessories. The four keyfob if I understand it correctly is the one without the alarm piece to it other than the stock alarm.
I have an 02 Excursion Diesel with an aftermarket Karr security system that the dealer installed when new. I am looking to add the remote start function to it? Any recomendations on brands. Do I go with the Ford version? How are the Viper/Python systems? Thanks, Joe
I just found out that remote start can now be factory ordered on Job 2 build trucks and at $286 invoice it is quite the deal over dealer installed!!! Added it to my order and off I go...
I just finished installing my Ford remote start/alarm, and I am not having any issues when using the keypad. A previous post mentioned that the dealer set it to "dual entry", but I am not sure exactly what that is. There is an optional feature that allows you to unlock the drivers door only when hitting the unlock, and to unlock both doors when hitting it twice. To do that you have to wire it in a certain way, and there are 2 optional features that have to be programmed. This feature involves cutting the drivers door unlock motor wire (violet/gray), connecting C-9 (tan/red) and A-9 (brown - disarm input) to the end that goes to the back of the truck, and A-13 to the other end. You also have to program Driver Unlock Relay and Driver Priority Unlock to be on.
I bought the Ford remote start/keyless entry/alarm, with the required PATS key module for $300. Took about 12 hours to install, although I was making sure everything was neat, and all connections were soldered. You mentioned in another thread a while back that there were some issues with the Ford instructions....and right you are. I came across 2 during the process.
First one was for the wire that goes to the to the cargo light. They listed it as blue, when the actual color is violet. Another was the actual location for the passenger side unlock all wire. They listed the location as being under the the passenger side sill panel, where on the SC it doesn't run that route. I ended up tapping into it right at the control panel on the passenger side kick panel. I purchased the wiring diagrams so I was able to work around these issues....very glad I had them on hand.
I figured there was a way to make it work with the keypad. I just have not taken back to them yet. This is one of those reasons i used to like to install things myself but with my bad back, I just don't care for crawling around under the dash anymore. thanks for your confirmation on the keypad working.
Oh yeah, I should add that the keypad still works, it just sets the alarm off when I open the door with it.
Reading the above posts makes me happy to have it installed from the factory for 3 bills. I used to love stereo installs too. I'm not sure if I'm gettin old or things are getting more complicated, but I've had it...
It was not available from the factory when I bought my truck. it was an option though to be installed once the truck was delivered. I paid the dealer to install it but it is not quite what I expected.
In my research I found others with your issue. One guy found the right answer. He had the dealer reset the alarm to "dual entry" mode so the keypad won't set off the alarm, rather it will disarm it. It seems many dealers forget to do this when installing the Ford alarms.
Had this same problem when i had the ford dealer install the system on my SD. Took it back and they fixed it. It does disarm the alarm when i use the keypad but you can also use the keypad to lock all 4 doors and was hoping it would re arm the alarm but it doesn't.
This would be nice to have as i park my vehicle outside and sometimes i need to get into my truck and i don't have my keys on me so i use the keypad. I then have to go back in the house to get the keybob to re arm it as i always want the alarm on when its parked outside

tsedgar, I just read this in the owners guide. Not sure if it has to be programed to do this, but you may want to give it a try.
"The PowerCode security system can also be armed by pressing the “Lock” button on either front door or the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons together on the outside door mounted keypad."

I'm at work...can't check it out until later.
That is what i did, i pushed 7/8 and 9/0 buttons and it locks the doors but does not re arm the alarm.
It should re-arm the alarm if you lock it with the doorlock switch though. Mine does.

Are you talking about the doorlock switch on the door or the remote? On the remote, that is correct but i believe it doesn't re arm if you use the doorlock switch on the door itself.
The only reason i would like to have it re arm by the keypad is that i have to park outside and i find at times i need to get into my truck but i do not have my car keys on me. It is nice to use the keypad but i need it to re arm due to the fact I want the alarm to go off if someone broke into it and then used the garage door opener that is built into the rearview mirror to open the garage door. It has the Ford aftermarket rearview mirrior with temp, compass, and 3 garage door buttons.
I did have to take it back to the dealer to get the keypad to disarm the alarm when used to unlock the truck.
, it would be even better if it turned on the heated seats!
My boss' 08 Suburban came with factory remote start. I like it when I borrow it in the winter time. It does turn the heated seats on! One drawback with GM's remote start is that it can only be fired twice. In my 05 Grand Prix, it takes forever to heat up. In the winter time 2 cycles of the remote start and it's still cold inside.
