On the same subject.... Does anyone know the part numbers for the new camera in the "tailgate handle" I bought the rearview mirror monitor, 3.5" screen built into the rearview mirror.... comes on when you put it into reverse. Anyway the one I bought came with the camera mount built into the crome part of the blue oval ford logo that mounts in the center of the tailgate F150? So I'm looking for the new F250 handle style

Handle is part number 8L3Z-9943400-AC

Camera is part number 8C3Z-19G490-A which was recently updated to 9C3Z-19G490-A. Either one would work...

I am interested in this as well, which model did you pick (for the monitor, not the cam).

Thanks,

J

Got it off ebay for 3 bills..... don't know what brand it is yet .... but the seller states it OEM. I'm going to put the ford oval camera up front and buy a new one for the rear and add a switch to switch between them useing the mirror monitor as the constant.

I was wondering if you can give some more info on the mirror/moniter that you got. I want to put something like this in my tow truck. Thanks

It's the Ford OEM mirror and the camera is a Ford OEM F150. I searched for backup camera on ebay and the guy had one for sale. If you search google they will pop up. I got mine to work on the bench.... kinda cool.

EOD Guy, did you get it installed yet? I received a VR3 system today and would rather hook it up so it can be used for forward as well as reverse driving. I'll have to put in a switch for sure, but I am pretty novice at auto wiring. BTW, I'm EOD too. SFC and headed for retirement in a few years! Take it easy, Eric-

Dude, this is Eric Whitsell....what a small world indeed. Like I said, I am planning on hooking the camera up so I can see it driving or backing up. What I don't know yet is how the camera will hold up being turned on for long periods of time (as in driving long distances) and the biggee is where/how to run all this off my fusebox. I assume I will hook into the ACC, but not sure how to do that properly. I will of course put in a switch, too. Any advice appreciated! You still in Alabama? I'll definitely look you up next time I am down that way! Take it easy.

It is a small world.... The rear camera is easy.... gets it' juice from the reverse light wire so it and the mirror stays off untill you are in rev. Front camera and the rev over-ride..... Little tricker..... Here's what I plan on, 2-button switches #1 will be pwr on to mirror and which ever camera position #2 is in. #2 will be a normally open/closed switch, in the closed position it will be wired to the rev camera (just in case when I'm driving I want to see how my trailer hitch is doing) and in the open position it'll be wired to the front camera so I can see how close I am to the $%#@! cars in the parking lot. You do remember how tall I am and how my height may not help me in that department. lol When I get it done I'll post..... I waiting on some shrink tubeing and some weather proof connectors to hook up the cameras.

Defuzer, VR3 = indash DVD? Are you going to use the rearview mirror/monitor? If not you need to make sure the screen and cameras are the NTSC type, the PAL type don't mix very well. Then it's a matter of getting a 4 pole - duel throw switch.... in the normally closed position hook up your reverse camera +Vid and -Vid amd your Gnd and +12v. Do the same in the ON position for the front camera. There is a great source for all your pwr needs (if you don't have duel tanks) if you remove your radio, look on the left hand side metal brace area for a empty grey connector thaat's used to pwr the tank selector switch. If you are looking at the left side of the transmission hump, go straight up from there. Anyways it has a switched 12V source that is fused protected.

nothing that complicated!

I'm keeping it all simple. I am trying to track down a "add a circuit" for the fusebox....makes life easier. No dvd and my monitor came with the camera, not in mirror or anything like that. All I'm trying to avoid is being limited to using the camera only when in reverse. Ever since I got that plate in my neck, I have a hard time turning around to see who I am passing on the road, and the cam will be a big help there. Later-

Just use a relay in-line with the reverse light wire,
1- hook the reverse light wire to the normally closed pole of the relay.
2- hook a ACC/run +12v wire to the normally open pole of the relay.
3- hook the + feed wire from the camera to the common pole (the one the directions say goes to rev wire).
4- hook a toggle or push button switch up to energize the relay.

That way when you put it in reverse the camera will come on normally and switch the dvd screen to the camera view. And if you flip a switch that will energize the relay, making it close and supplying the ACC/Run +12v just as if it were in reverse.
