Anybody using them and are they any good? I think it's time to start diognosing my rough running V10 when its wet/cold. Guess I'll find a pal to put a code scanner on it.
If they will not say who manufactured them, I would stay clear of them. I replaced mine with Motorcrafts, but if I could have got granitelli coils in my time frame I would have used them.
When they first came out, the mustang guys liked them. I've had plenty of bad experiences with granitelli, but the "reviews" at the time had me interested in trying. Have their coils become a failure since then?
I had one go in my Expedition. Since it was on the spot, I ended up going with ford OEM. $72 or so, but worked out great. Was just in the worst spot, #4, left side, all the way back. They're prone, so if you have trouble start with that one. Water tends to get in there and build up, causing premature failing of them.
There have been more than a few L guys who switched to the Granatelli coils when they came out for the 5.4 mod engines who had misfires, failures, and ignition problems after the switch.
All of their hiccups, misfires, failures and ignition related problems were cured when they switched back to the OEM COP's
Now, I'm not saying ALL the guys who switched had problems, but there were quite a few, and that's enough for me.
I wish I had bookmarked the thread, but over at NLOC, there was one guy who tracked down some problems he was having at the track with his built engine. Turns out the culprit was ignition related caused by the Granatelli coils. He said he was lucky because he caught the problem before he completely ruined his built engine.
