Are the spare keys sold on eBay legit? I only have 1 key and would like to have another without paying Ford $80.00 for it. Anyone ever bought on eBay?
Yes, the aftermarket keys on eBay work. (Although I've heard of a few problems - mine worked fine). The trouble you'll have is that with only 1 key, you still have to go to the dealer to get it programmed. If you had two, you could make a third by yourself. But with only one, the dealer actually has to wipe out the codes for all, and start over with new codes. Part of the theft deterrent/Ford Cash Cow system...
I have 2 remotes but only 1 key. Are you saying the key itself has to be programmed? Or just the remote? If only the remote than I should be OK. Can you clarify and thanks for the advice.

I'm not near my Ex or my F-150 right now, but I seem to rcall that the sequence for programming a new key DOES require 2 keys that work. I remember reading the sequence in my OM some time back (tho I have not had to do it!)
If you have only one key, you need to go to the dealer to have second programmed. You can also go to some locksmiths that have the equipment to do it. They are cheaper than the dealer.
If you have two keys, you can program a third key on your own with out taking it to the stealership.
If you have only one remote, you can program as many as you like.
Directions for both procedures are in your owners manuel or you can find them on line with a easy search.
I have purchased multiple keys and remotes from Ebay. They work just fine, and are much cheaper than the stealerships.
For any Excursion owner that currently has two keys, you may think this subject doesn't apply to you. But it does..... indirectly.
If you have 2 keys right now..... I strongly suggest you buy 2 more off eBaY, have them cut at your local key shop, and program them yourselves while you can (takes 2 keys to program #3 and #4 keys). This way you don't need to visit Ford once you lose one of your current two keys.
I have 4 keys to my Excursion after having done this.
I already bought 2 more keys and now I just need to get them cut.
You have to program them NOW too. Don't wait until you lose one of your current two keys, you can't program them then. Ford has to do it if you only have one working key.
A maximum of eight keys can be coded to your vehicle. Only SecuriLock keys can be used. To program a coded key yourself, you will need two previously programmed coded keys (keys that already operate your vehicle’s engine) and the new unprogrammed key(s) readily accessible for timely implementation of each step in the procedure. If two previously programmed coded keys are not available, you must bring your vehicle to your dealership to have the spare coded key(s)
programmed. Please read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.
1. Insert the first previously programmed coded key into the ignition and turn the ignition from 1 (OFF) to 3 (ON) (maintain ignition in 3 (ON) for at least one second, but no more than ten seconds).
2. Turn ignition to 1 (OFF) then 2 (ACC) and remove the first coded key from the ignition.
3. Within ten seconds of removing the first coded key, insert the second previously programmed coded key into the ignition and turn the ignition from 1 (OFF) to 3 (ON) (maintain ignition in 3 (ON) for at least one second but no more than ten seconds).
4. Turn the ignition to 1 (OFF) then 2 (ACC) and remove the second coded key from the ignition.
5. Within 10 seconds of removing the second coded key, insert the new unprogrammed key (new key/valet key) into the ignition and turn the ignition from 1 (OFF) to 3 (ON) (maintain ignition in 3 (ON) for at least one second, but no more than ten seconds). This step will program your new key to a coded key.
6. To program additional new unprogrammed key(s), repeat this procedure from step 1.
If successful, the new coded key(s) will start the vehicle’s engine and the theft indicator will illuminate for three seconds and then go out. If not successful, the new coded key(s) will not start the vehicle’s engine and the theft indicator will flash on and off and you may repeat steps 1 through 5. If failure repeats, bring your vehicle to your dealership to have the new spare key(s) programmed.
