My sons 2001 F350 v 10 4X4 433 axle ratio, passenger side appears that it just ate the axle bearing inside the hub. He has gone through two sets of Warn locks(eats them up) and put a new set of hubs on up to this point. He was driving with no locks and the hub duct taped closed until he could afford to fix it I would bet that the time this vehicle has been in 4X4 would be covered in less that one tank of gas(before the last set of locks bit the dust). We will probably disasemble it tomorrow before the turkey hits the table.
Now my first question is on the long side(passenger) is there a bearing at the end of the shaft or is the axle assembly just held by the bearing back at the ring and the bearing at the back of the hub. I have gone back in old posts and found nothing mentioned about an outboard bearing but I find it hard to believe there isn't one. But if thats the case I would think the stub axle or main axle must be bent to cause all of his issues. Any thoughts before we dig into this that we should look for.
There is a needle bearing just outward of the ujoint..In 4wd the locking hub carries the end of the stub axle..The hub bearing could be bad as well as the needle bearing in that bearing. Its part of the bearing. You may need the stub if the needle is gone..
