well after my long search for a decent 4x4 dentside ended over a week ago I have been busy getting it ready for its winter commute duty.and tonight it will be getting a fresh coat of dark jade.now I'm by no means a body man but I get by,luckily a friend of mine is a pro and does alot of restoration work as well.he tells me that this color of green will not cover without a base coat of grey under it,so I guess before the old girl goes green its going grey.with any luck I'll have some pictures of the finished product in my gallery by the weekend.
there will be metalic in it,and hopefully not enough runs to use it for a ladder, the only rigs I can ever seem to paint and not get runs in are for other people,go figure huh.I had all intentions on taking the camera to the shop with me today to get a couple pictures of it as soon as the paint goes on.I may be able to talk to the wifey into bringing it by after supper.if not I'll get some on tomorrow or friday.I am just painting the cab and clip,my 2wd has the original paint on everything but the box,it was repainted a couple of years ago for some reason,so I am going to just transplant that box onto the 4wd.I have a nice southern one for the 2wd now.you guys that live down there are some lucky.you have no idea how much nicer your rust free parts are to work with.
hahaha rub it in,maybe I'll move down your way so I can drive the wife crazy by dragging more old trucks home.I'd be divorced.I was thinking of putting the stripes on the 4x4my 2wd is an explorer.but I added the race track trim to the 2wd and the 4 wd already had it.but the thought has crossed my mind looking at old sales brochures.I went and looked at a bronco a couple months ago and you want to talk about cancer,I drove almost 4 hours one way to look at this WESTERN CANADA bronco that just had some minor surface rust.if I wasn't laughing so hard at my brother in law for pulling 80% of the passenger side quarter panel of with his fingers I would have been upset for wasting the day on this severly rusted out old horse.it may have came from alberta one time but it was a 1980 and my guess is it hit atlantic canada in january of 81.what is wrong with some people.
rust never sleeps!!! i am always searching for good rust free parts. out here in little old Maple Ridge (south western British Columbia, Canada) the pacific coastline,we live in a rain forest type climate,so it can really be a challenge to keep our trucks lookin good over time. i really is a labour of love to keep the old trucks lookin good.
yes hotrod it sure is,just trying to find a truck this old around here is a challenge.I had a 98 Z71 extended cab a few years back for a work truck and it was looked after and the box and cab corners were rotten on it.it should be law in canada to have rigs rust checked from the factory, hahaha like that will ever happen.
im sorry you had to drive a chevy for work.i don't think your empoyer should subject you to that kind of work related hazard.did you get a nasty rash from the chevy? HAHAHA.(just kidding)
i know what you mean,i see some vehicles with so much rust the are not structurally safe for driving. i had a toyota truck i drove for 15 years ,i had put a 302 ford in it,and built a dually rear axle for it .it rusted really bad.the frame rotted away,so i removed the 302,and dually axle and scraped the rest.
ahahaha, you just mention the ford word around my boss and he looks for a paper bag to put over his head, but when I bought my 2wd and had it here,I came back from lunch one day to find the hood and doors open and him all over it liking how nice a shape it was in.I will give credit where credit is due that old 6.5 chevy took an awful punishment,612xxx kms on it before it finally bit the big one.now I have a '06 duramax 4x4.and again it seems to be a pretty decent working truck for a chevy.I used it to haul the trailer I picked my 4x4 up with and the guy I bought it froms father was there and asked why I wanted an old relic like that when I had such a nice truck to drive,I told him it was only good for picking up my treasures.

good come back. if the guys father didn't understand why you wanted the "old relic" then you just can't explain it to him.he isn't a gearhead like us. around my house ford trucks, hotrods and harleys rule. and in my shop above the work bench it says, SPEED COSTS MONEY,HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO? and GAS MILEAGE ISNT EVERYTHING.
its the first thing that came to mind, this old fella builds hot rods and stock cars for his son,I figured he would haev been a little brighter, but then after seeing some of there handywork on this truck I realized the difference.above my bench it says no body jobs.my father is another die hard chev guy and when I pulled into his yard with my 2wd he just shook his head and went back into the house.some people have no taste ahaha
That should be a nice lookin' rig when you're done! Be sure and post us some pics when you have a chance.
Also got the Ford vs. Chevy debate in my household. The wife, unfortunately, comes from a Chevy household, and I became Ford-loyal at the onset of purchasing my own vehicles without help from the parents. The only thing we can agree on about our Fords and Chevys is that at least none of them are a Dodge!
i always get hassled by my chevy and dodge buddies for having fords, but they always come to my house to get their stuff fixed. thats good enough for me. im a firm beleiver in "run what you brung". i just run fords because i trust them. i also am more familiar with them. i have worked on lots of other stuff too,but i like fords. our son almost bought a chevy 4x4, until he started looking at them really closely. he went back and bought another ford 4x4.he has had 3 so far and trusts them too. i think he liked the fact that i have a lot of parts laying around to pick from for when he wants to upgrade his truck ,or repair it if it breaks.
well I come from a mixed bag I guess,my grandfather always bought fords, and although my father is a chev guy,he had alot of fords for work trucks, first one I ever drove was a 77 2wd.still have a picture of it.I always liked the look of fords,as far as rear ends the older stuff usually used the same as one another, dana spicer, same with transfer cases.but you look at a 73/79 ford and tell me you like the look of a chevy or dodge better and, specially after you put two feet against the curb to close your door, and I let mine go and it clicks shut,I'll still have this argument with you.henry built the first truck as far as I'm concerned and he will always build the best.
well guys I hate to toot my own horn but my lord thats the best paint job I ever did, only one little hanger in the hood I'll fix that later.so happy I don't know what to do with myself.guess I'll go home and have some supper hahaha.but I am going to have to paint the box cause seeing it beside the newly painted cab and clip its dull.my body man friend got caught up at work and hasn't been here yet so he'll be impressed his teachings stuck.anyways all thanks for your words of encouragment supper and bed are calling.
thanks alot utf,I took some pictures so I will get them on tonight or tomorrow, time to start putting the trim and such back on it now,and get all the rattle can primmer the po has all over the windows.the fun stuff.
