[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Apr-02 AT 08:18 PM (EST)]I am gonna order some new wheels for my 92 f150 4x4. It currently has the stock 15x6 steel wheels (Custom Package)
I am gonna go with 33x10.50 15's on a 15x8 wheel, but what backspacing do I need?
I hate trucks with half the tire hanging out of the wheel well, but they could fill out the well a little better, like a half inch more to the outside would be good.
Do you have one of the wheels? Take a straight edge and a ruler and lie the straight edge across the back of the rim and measure from the mounting surface to the straight edge and subtract half an inch because of the lip of the rim. This should tell you exactly what it is.
I have 15x8" rims on my truck with 235x75x15's and they don't stick out and the backspacing is 3.5". You also have to take into considerating that the tires on your truck will be wider so they have to stick out a bit more so they don't rub on your radius arm. I am gonna venture and say that a 15x8 with a 3.5" backspacing should be fine. I hope this helps.
I just bought a set of 15x8 wheels with 3.75 inches of backspacing. I mounted 33x12.50s and put them on my 95 F-150. They stick out a very small amount on the front end, but even though I realize you're talking about a skinnier tire I wouldn't go much less on backspacing if you want to keep them under the fenders.
