Aluminum

Ok, so I want to paint my bed box flat black, but I need to know more about surface prep. I have started scuffing it with steel wool, but I was worried this isnt good enough. Should it be etched? Oh and I want to use Krylon Primer since it's such a small job. Guidance is welcomed. Thanks all.

I use an acid etching primer ,made ,specifically for aluminum..all you have to doo with it ,is clean it & prime it .

Its a 2 part by Dupont ..

I have heard you can get etching primer in an arosol can also ..

I think Eastwood may have it...

Never mind summit racing sells a brand of primer that is self-etching.

Dont skimp on the primer. You need a good self etching primer made for Alum. Aircraft primer is what I use for it. A good autobody supply store should have it. Other wise the primer will just flake off the alum.

Well long story short, looks good, but doesnt preform. lol I had a feeling just from my expierence with rattle can, from the naysayers here. Rubbed off when i had my truck loaded with some stuff, and flaked in a few spots. I'm jus gonna bed line it.
