this is getting out of control...pepboys cant figure it out what flowmaster i need...some on here said i have three inch pipes..pepboys says that 05 f250s 5.4 gas come standard with 2.5 which is it..i thought i had a center-offset set up..i looked i have offset- offset...current mufler is 23 inches long....so please someone tell me what i need....i want a cheap way to make my truck sound like one..not wake the dead just sound truck like
Offset center should still work, just depends on how much offset you have. If you want something quiet but throaty, try our Wickedflow mufflers in the 18" size. A Fullblown 50 series would also work well, maybe just a bit louder and deeper than the Wickedflow.
Center in/Offset out is what you want... I'm not familiar with Bear River mufflers so I can't comment on them. I like Magnaflows and an 18" would fit perfect... or if you like the Flowmaster sound the 50 series will work great.
ak...i believe you but why would pepboys computer say 2.5..the guy showed me the screen...he typed in f250 2005 5.4 replacement exhaust and it said 2.5...
I don't know but their computer is wrong... I have an '05 F250 and know for a fact it came with 3" piping stock.
You can use offset/offset but the muffler won't line up with the stock piping as nice as a center/offset. I did the exhaust on my Dad's truck, an '00 F-250 w/5.4 twice. The first time I used a Flowmaster 40 series 3" offset/offset... worked but the muffler had to be cocked a little. The second time, about a year ago now, we replaced the Flowmaster (rusted out) with a Magnaflow 3-chamber center in/offset out. It fit much better and IMO sounds much better.

I have a Flowmaster 50 on my 03 F250 with the 5.4. It's not super loud and it is definitely not deep. It is very buzzy and sounds like a V-6 with an exhaust leak. I have a cherry bomb glasspack on my wife's Expedition with the dual cats and it sounds great...very low rumble...sounds like my big block 460 with Borla exhaust. The SD 5.4's just don't sound as good as most V-8's.
I know it doesn't make a lot of sense just looking at it but the vertical distance between the stock muffler inlet and outlet matches best to center in/offset out of most aftermarket oval shaped mufflers.
cschannuth, I think my truck sounds pretty decent. ?
Not sure this will help, but I have an '03 F350 5.4L 4X4 and just had a Super 44 muffler installed last Friday. Flowmaster part number I used was 943048 - 3" w/ offset on both ends. Also needed a short pc of pipe to take up gap left by longer stock muffler. I think this is supposed to be the most aggressive muffler "volume wise", but with the rest of the exhaust system being stock, it is not that loud.
I will tell you that this muffler does have a bit of a hummmmm in the cab at cruising speed (1500-1800 RPM) but I like that.
Resonant noise between 1500 and 1800 rpm are not unusual with a V8. In this case angler dave you have the input of guys who have done the job, not just looked at a computer. Their input is the most valuable to what works. Questions are good, but "questioning" can make it seem difficult.
hey i got a 2008 5.4l with flowmaster 10 series and 3 in" in and 3" out with 3" tail pipes instead of a 2.5" got it done at the local shop only charged me $250 for all the pipe and work and i got the muffler and tips of ebay so i was pretty cheap...

None of them sound bad, just not like the deep rumble I'm used to. My kid loves the way my Flowmaster sounds. Too "Indy racer/V-10 sounding for my taste. Do you have a sound clip of the Magnaflow?
