dana 60s

putting a cummins in a 79 f250. do i need the dana 60 front and rear or just front? what about the newer ones with ball joints instead of king pins? thanks ahead of time for help

If you have the money, put a 60/70 combo in your truck. I have seen the 6.9/7.3 on TTB D44s, you might be able to get away with it on a solid axle 44 as long as you dont do any jumping with the truck. if you can get the 60 front to bolt up to your truck somehow, it doesnt matter if it is kingpin or balljoint. The balljoint axle is 100% fine for 99% of the people out there.

I agree, a 60 axle out of a 78/79 would bolt right in as long as you have the correct gear ratio. The D60 rear is about as strong as a 9" either a sterling 10.25 or D70 back there would do the trick.

What axles are in the truck now? I'd think a D44 front and D60 rear - which should hold up fine if you're not towing 10k lbs. or racing it.

the tag is missing on the front so until i have time to tear it down to read the stamp i wont know for sure. it is eight lugs which is good. worst case senario it breaks then find the D60. thanks guys.
