How To Remove Epoxy

I'm slowly getting my truck the way I want it and I think my next chore is to replace some of the vinyl trim on my camper shell. However, the original owner slathered the poor thing with epoxy (or something similar). I'm wondering if you guys have any ideas of how to remove it without damaging the paint too badly (if that's even possible). I don't think I can slide the new vinyl strips into place with the metal being filled with epoxy. Thanks guys!

It looks like caulk to me. If it is, it should peel right off without taking the paint with it. If it is a hardened epoxy you might try a penetrating oil to get under it.

Like WD40?
I'll give anything a try to get rid of it.
Thanks.
