Howdy New to the group here. I have a 86 f-150 300 six cyl. I have replaced the alternator, cylenoid now I'm convinced that its the voltage regulator running it down. the problem i'm having is locating the regulator, any help would be greatly appreciated
It might be on the alternator. It depends on what type of alternator you have. 86 had several different types, including the integral regulator type. If you don't see a square metal box with about 4 wires coming out of it on the passenger side of the engine compartment, then you don't have one.
After I installed the new AC Delco highdollar alternator I put the voltage metor on the cables it was putting out around 14.43 volts. it ran great for a few days then it drained down to where it had to be jumped. What I'm wondering now is could it be one of the cables going from the cylinoid to the starter or the cable going from the starter to the battery. Both of these I believe are original cables
