speedometer died
Today after figuring out that I have bad batteries I pulled a DTC of P0500. Is this the VSS? Also, are there 2 different VSS's? One on the tranny output and one on the rear differential? On my way to get new batteries my speedometer completely died. My tranny seemed to shift wierd and my ABS trouble light came on. Does anyone know exactly what DTC P0500 is? If it is just the VSS, which one is it? Any help would be appreciated.

Well I guess that answers that question. I'd say go ahead and replace it before your trip.
The VSS is the one on the rear diff. The sensors on the tranny are the TSS & OSS sensors and have different codes. Unless you've got a short in the wires somewhere (very unusual) replace the VSS in the rear.

One more piece of advice Jon. Stop and get you a lottery ticket on your way to the parts store. It may not seem like it, but I'd consider this very good luck that you had these problems show up all at once several days before you left for a trip. Usually this kind of stuff shows up during, or the night before a trip.
