That's much worse than I could have imagined! Sure would seem to break a lot of descendants of A4LD. Most newer GM & Ford automatics I've driven ('95 on OBD 2) are about like that & then the tranny gets a torturous jerk when it finally realize you really do NEED the take-off power. I must say in my Dad's Crown Vic it turned out to be a leaky cooler line, but it's always exhibited this to some degree. The GM's hae been terrible in spite of thier supposed prowess in the automatics.
All I know is that my 09 4.0 still has a trottle cable hooked up to the TB just like my 04 4.0 did. Maybe the duratec 2.3 is DBW, but the 4.0 and 3.0 are not. Well, I'm not sure about the 3.0 as I've never owned one, but if the 4.0 isn't, why would ford waste modern tech on the antique 3.0.
