Exclamation 92 Bronco Wont Fire

I took my 92 Bronco mud ridin yesterday (It did Great) but when i parked it. I went and rode in a buddy's truck. When I came back to my Bronco It wouldnt Crank. It would just spin. At First i thought it might be flooded. After I left it for a while it still wouldnt crank. Then I thought it was the fuel pump. But a buddy of mine told me that since Everthing was wet that i mightave got water in my distributer cap. When i got it towed home last night there was muddy water coming from up under the engine when it got tilted back. I tried to crank it this morning and it now acts like it wants to fire but it still isnt cranking up.
Any help or suggestions PLEASE!!!

Could be many things. Give it a good "under hood" wash of the engine bay, tranny, wheels and drive shafts. Get all the mud off/out, let it dry, and then try. If it still won't crank, pull codes. Ford Fuel Injection

Post both KOEO, and Memory codes

One last thing, turn the the key to "run" and listen for the fuel pump. Make sure that it is priming the system. Remember what makes an engine run, and trace down the major things for a simple fix. Fuel, air, spark, compression. Take one away, it won't run.

Timmy's got you on the right track. Follow his suggestions to the letter.

You mentioned the possibility of having gotten water/mud in the distributor. It's tough to do but not impossible. You might pop the cap off and have a look inside. If there is crud inside you will want to clean it very well taking care to absorb any moisture particularly around the wiring.

I pulled the codes from the STI. They are as follows.

KOEO
1.1/6.1/1.6/

Pause/1/

CM
1.7/2.1/7.3/3.3/4.1/7.2/3.3/3.4/

I read what they all meant but its like a foreign Language to me.
Can anyone help me understand this
PLEASE HELP!!!

To update once again.
Since I kept trying to crank my motor so many times yesterday it finally killed my battery. I put it on charge last night and when i went to take a look at my truck this morning the battery was fully charged so i tried to crank it. And when it spins it acts like it wants to crank it spudders and goes on but didnt fire up. So when i tried to crank it again i decided i was gonna try pumping the throttle. When I did that it still does the same and just spin but after about ten seconds of spinning and pumping the throttle the truck gradually cranks up and runs fine to my knowledge once its crunk up and idling. I haven't drove it yet cuz i don't 100% trust it to drive it all day.
Any suggestions and has this happened to anyone else.

PS The weather has been cold here lately and gettin to down bellow freezing at night could it have possibly taken two days to dry out and start cranking. And should I just wait to see whats gonna happen later this week instead of jumping the gun and start looking for parts to replace. I don't want to send it to the shop if i aint got to.

throwing parts at it right now is not the right thing to do. Have you converted the codes yet?

The continuous memory codes don't look right. There should not be any repeats of codes in an initial sequence. That means that there are no repeat codes on the first time that it reads it to you...anyways now on to the explanations...

First KOEO:

11: system pass (thats a good thing)
61: ECT reads 254 degrees F, or circuit grounded (coolant temp is way high, or it malfunctioned at some point)
16: IDM signal not received

CM: 17, 21, 73, 33, 41, 72, 33, and 34
17: ?
21: ECT out of self-test range (much like 61)
73: Insufficient TP change during dynamic test (Throttle Position)
33: EGR Valve opening not detected
41: No HEGO switching detected (Oxygen sensor)
72: Insufficient MAF/MAP change during dynamic test
33: The repeat that doesn't make sense
34: EVP voltage above closed limit

By the way, you can find these on page 4-16 of the Hayne's guide for the bronco. If you don't have one, you need to invest the money in one.

The coolant temp and the IDM are most likely a result of massive amounts of mud and water finding the top of the engine. If you coolant temp gauge in you truck is pegged at max all the time (even when you know the engine is cold), then you need to find the ground in the wire or replace the sending unit (about $6). The IDM (Ignition Diagnostic Monitor) is only used for diagnostics. It would not have affected whether the engine could crank. (Check and make sure the SPOUT "Spark Output" plug is in and tight)

For codes 33 and 34, you need check the vacuum tube going into the top of the EGR for cracks/leaks, then check the EVP (sensor on top of the EGR) for the proper resistance and voltages, (use haynes guide, chaper 6, pages 6 thru 8), and if those two pass, clean the EGR valve of the residual carbon, and lastly (and least likey, but it can happen), replace the EGR.

For 73, check the voltages of your Throttle Position Sensor (chaper 4, haynes guide) and replace if it is out of tolerance.

For 41, time to replace the O2 sensor if you are getting poor gas mileage. It is most likely making your fuel-air ratio too rich.

Have fun, and post your results. And try using the search feature if you need more info about the codes above.

And check out Greystreak's "Big Bronco FAQ" you will need to reference his massed information at some point. I think all of us on this board have needed/used it at one point or another. -Thanks Greystreak-

Thumbs up

Hey thanks Timmy for the help and the time you took to look those codes up for me I appreciate all the time and help.
Now the bronco is cranking up as it did a week ago. It doesn't spin any more as it did yesterday. I think it just needed a little time to dry out. I'll look into the O2 Censor next bc fuel mileage is a big factor (every little bit helps). As for the other problems ill look into those a little later as i have probably been driving with them for the last 8000 miles anyway. The last thing i replaced was the computer. It fried up December of last year. And I had 249,000 miles on it then and I am fixin to trip 257000 in a week or so. With the high mileage i know everything aint gonna be right all the time. Ill be sure to post any further info. When I get some more spare time Ill pull the codes once more to make sure im getting the right numbers if there different ill post em if not ill get someone to help me (maybe another set of eyes to double check the number count).
Thanks again for the help
