C6 fluid and filter change

I dropped the pan, dumbed the fluid, changed the filter, reinstalled the pan. Read in the manual it holds 11-13qts. Started refilling and after dumping 10qts in started it up and let it warm up and checked the dipstick and as best I can tell it is way overfull. Fluid is leaking out, it appears from the base of the dipstick tube. Is it overflowing? Do I need to be chasing a leak or let figuring out a way to get some of the fluid out? It drives great but I'm going to be pulling a big trailer through the mountains soon and I need to know everything is ok before I start the trip.

you needed to drain convertor.

start again, drop pan, drain convertor and i would not change filter but you can if you want to do it.

FWIW, I put a drainplug in the pan, before I reinstalled it. Do I just need to let some fluid out?

Depends on what you want. By dropping the pan only you will only have drained about 4qts of old fluid. You can go two ways. You can take QL2s advice and drain all the fluid, which would be the ideal case (because you have a drain plug you would not have to drop the pan again) or just drain off the excess fluid for now and do a full change later.
To drain the convertor you remove the lower cover, rotate the torque convertor until the drain plug is at the bottom, remove plug and drain.
It goes without saying that if you decide to drain all the fluid you should discard it and refill with new. Also Dexron 3 would probably be the fluid to use. Good luck with it.

Yup. Thanks for all the help. I just pulled the plug and drained some back out until it was right on the dipstick. I need the garage space to work on another car right now. Thanks again!
