turbo ?'s

I want to install an aftermarket compressor wheel for the turbo its from xtremediesel.com and was wondering if anybody knows about it. Also is there anyway to adjust the wastegate on the turbo.

All aftermarket compressor wheels for the 99.5-03 7.3L turbos are identical. They go by many names, but they are the same compressor wheel that comes on the early 99 trucks. So all you have to do is find the cheapest price, and you're set.

As for the wastegate, you can tighten the actuator rod to increase the tension. That will hold it closed longer, and some people gain a few PSI of boost by doing this (depending on your mods of course).

More than likely it will remain pretty close to the same. If anything, you might lose a few psi of peak boost. The main purpose of that wheel is to reduce surge, not to improve turbo performance. It's definitely not a power adder if that's what you're looking for.

It depends on how much you make now. Take that, and subtract two or three. The job of this wheel is reduce surge by flowing less air, thus effectively shifting the compressor map to a place where it is harder to reach the surge line

actually the curvature of the pre 99 turbo wheel is ever so slightly different than the wicked wheel or what ever you choose to call it. When going through the crap one that I bought of ebay, I went with which ever part was better, so in this case about all I did was take the smaller compressor housing off and put the larger one on. I like the looks of the pre 99 better than what was originally on there. So after putting in place checking clearance it really looked like it was hitting the housing. Thinking I was really screwed at this point put the wicked wheel in there, and low and behold the clearance was there. Now we are only talking maybe a difference of .5mm or so but I could see it not making contact where as before wasn't positive it made contact but it sure did look like it was.
