Still got your old starter, or did you turn it in for the core already? How do the solenoids compare? You could change them over, or even dismantle the new one to see if you could scavenge parts from the old one, but i don't think a solenoid is too expensive.
You could look in the yellow pages for a shop that specializes in starter/alternator service and i'd bet they'll have solenoids available. Napa should be able to get you another solenoid, depending on the experience of the counter person. He/she may not know where to look, and only knows how to find a complete starter in the computer. Just keep asking politely.
the core is gone...I think I found a solenoid a couple of towns over...thanks for the suggestions folks!!!
ok folks...heres what I've done to start my truck...new glo-plugs and GPR...did the 6337 intake mod...new injector o-rings...new fuel filter...new oil filter and oil...new batteries...new re-man starter...how much cranking to determine if its gonna start????
It'll take quite a bit, ya gotta get all the air outa the oil rails from when you had the injectors out. make sure you keep oil in the hpop reservoir as you try starting it and dont overheat that new starter.
Not right away, you'll have to get all the air out before the injectors start firing. Are the hpop res and fuel bowl full? Is this the 1st you've tried to start it since the o-rings? Are you sure the cylinders were clear of any fluids?
is the first time since the rings......actually I just drained the oil out and after a day everything was empty...I did crank the engine to make sure the cylinders were clear...refilled oil in crank and HPOP...will check the HPOP in a few mins...batteries are chargin'...do I need to keep on this or can I take breaks of an hour while the batteries charge up???
With a lot of cranking the hpop will drain the reservoir faster than the lpop can refill it, you gotta keep an eye on the level in the reservoir or it will pump more air into the system. A lot of cranking is normal for some, it just depends on the pump. Are you sure all the wiring is plugged back in?
From the injector installs I've done and draining the rails and HPOP rez for various reasons, I've found this.
It usually takes 5 or 6 "try to start" cycles of at least 20 seconds.
And you need to top the res at least 4 of those. Most of mine have started on the 6th try. And I rarely saw smoke. If your motor is in good shape and all the electronics are hooked up, it should start about the time you see smoke. Does that make sense? Don't get discouraged. It takes ALOT of cranking and well charged batts.
well...I was crankin' again this morning...drew down my new batteries 2 times...still no smoke and no fire...I did check my block heater and it is NFG...how cold is too cold before it won't fire???
mojo thought I was gonna be sleepin' in the trailer...nope...wife sez the shed...
