I dont have one , but was thinking about getting one. My question is instead of being an extender on the gate, can it be flipped around and be used as a cargo holder? If so will it fit under my bed cover? Thanks,Kevin Bigwin
Only problem i can see in my situation, is with a bed extender installed, are they easily removed?? I have a dirt bike that I need to load on and off the truck.
Not sure about the cost new, mine is second hand, used but it pops in an out in 30 secs.
Its great for keeping the groceries in place and tying on the bbq propane tanks when I need to refill
I just bought an OEM one off Craigslist for $60 then went to a dealership and bought the bolts that you scred into the side of your bed for $22 and some change. It pops off and on in seconds.
If you by the whole setup new from Ford it will run you $400+ to get it. I know because I called before I looked on Craigslist.
Wow, under $100 from Craiglists, thats a good deal. They are $189ish on Ebay.
If any of you have ever driven over a rough road with the tailgate down, you'll know that you can pop the tailgate off its hinges. Is the bed extender designed to prevent this from happening, or does it just rest on the tailgate, not putting enough pressure on the tailgate to prevent it from 'bouncing'? If not, then do you think that the hinges on the bed extender are strong enough to handle a bouncing tailgate?
With my dirt bike in the back, the back wheel only just sits over the tailgate. So that wont put enough weight on the tailgate to prevent it from bouncing either. Point is that when I head out to the desert, we go over some rough patches off road. Dont want to whole thing coming apart on me!!

If I was you I would just put a ratchet strap from the bed extender, if you get one, to your hitch receiver to hold the tailgate down snug. This should keep it from bouncing around a lot. I also got a bed extender for $40 with the brackets and bolts on craigslist. It lifts off in about 2 seconds so I can load my quad then put it back on to use your tailgate as more storage space.
