How do you know if a 66 289 is a HI PO or not?

Hello,
I am out of my normal domain on this small block. I just picked up a C5 block, C8 4V intake and 66 heads that say 289 with angle plugs.

My question is how to identify a HI PO 289, is mine ?

Thanks,
Kevin Bigwin

The A, C, D code engines have hydraulic lifters & vacume distributors. The K codes have solid lifters & duel point mechanical distributors.

There should be a counter weight between the dampner and the crank sprocket if it is indeed a real K motor.

Also on the HIPO heads, they had screw in rocker studs. The others had pressed in studs like my 289 heads on my 302.

Still a good engine with lots of potential. 200, 250, 300 or more hp depending on your budget. Note the Hi-po motors were gross rated at 271 hp, so net they were probably 230 or so net.
