Well don't keep the findings a secret. I'm swamped right now so I don't think I'll get to it myself but I'm always up for more info especially if it solves problems.
http://http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj165/Hot-Rodder-B-2/100_3805.jpgI seem to have a ECM that is not the normal one put in a Bronco. The guy at the auto shop I went to called someone and they told him the number was not the one for what I was working on. It is grey and has Motorcraft and F1TB-7E453-AA on the back of it. It is made to be taken apart real easy. I am still trying to put a link to the pics I took of it. I will keep trying

Reason: tryin to fix the link for a photo
I think I have figured out how to post a link. Does this look like what should be in a 91 Bronce with a 5.0 & a E40D trans. I am going to put it back in and see what it does now. He told me it should reset after I had pulled it out and took it in for him to look at it. The board looks like it has got Hot to me, but I am going to put it back in and try it.
The part of the board that is bubbled up does that look like it got hot. I put it back in the case and installed it back in the Bronco. But it still does the same thing as before. All though in R it will take off really good while in low 4x4, and when I put it in D it was still like being in 3rd, it will almost not move. But put it in low with it in low 4x4 it will take off pretty good, just because it keeps the rpm's up over 2K. I was not abel to try and pull codes myself yet, we are going over to the Daughter house for Thanksgiving to day. I may try and get a board from a F-150 at the pick&pull yard. Will I be running a risk of frying the new board if something is wrong with the system that I don't know about.
I am leaning toward just putting a carb and a older trans on it, how hard will it be to find a trans that will fit. Will I have to get another transfer case, or will a C-6 or a C-4 work with the one I have.
I tried to do the self test and the fuel pump will not turn off & the check engine light does not flash at all. I also have tried to find a replacement ECM with the Ford # that is on the back of my ECM which is F1TB-7E453-AA. But I am told that it is not the right part # for a 91 Bronco ECM Has anyone ever seen one like this. It is in the pass. side kick panel.
It is on the pass. side kick panel. And yes the cover comes off. I posted pic's of it. Not sure why this link is not working. Look at the rest of this thread.

Reason: post link
I don't think that is the ECU, it should have a 60 pin connector and be in a metal case.. see the pic at top of this page. Ford Fuel Injection EEC Computers
The ECU is located in the drivers side kick panel, but to access it you have to pull it out from the engine compartment. You should see 2 large wiring harnesses below the brake booster, the one nearest the fender with a rectangular connector will be the main ECU. Be sure to disconnect the battery before attempting to remove it.
Thanks I will look at it again, I was told that it was in the pass side kick panel. And that is what I found. Working on a truck with a computer is all new to me. Thanks Bill
What proceedure are you using to pull the codes? Are you grounding the STI connector in the EEC test harness and turning the key to run? Have you checked the fuel pump relay to see if it is shorted? I ask this because you said the fuel pump runs all the time in a post above. When you do get the truck moving does the speedo work? If not then you probably have a VSS(vehicle speed sensor) problem. Input from this sensor goes to the speedo and the computer, and since the computer runs the tranny it won't shift right if this signal is missing. The VSS will be either on the tail of the tranny or in the rear end.
Yes I am grounding the STI connector in the EEC test harness and turning the key to run. I have not checked the fuel pump relay. And I did not check to see if the speedo was working or not. This is the first project that I have worked on that has a computer. Thanks for all the info. Do you know what the box is for that I showed? So far I have not found out what it is for.
I fired up the Bronco and drove it down the driveway, & the speedo does seem to be working. I have not had time to check the fuel pump relay to see if it is shorted. Is it right next to the test plug? If it was shorted would that be why I have to give it a shot of fuel to get it started. Because it will not start with out a shot of fuel, it just turns over.
If you are driving down the driveway, then the pump is working, which means the relay will work also.
Sounds to me like your fuel rail is not getting the pressurizing pulse from the PCM at initial key on. That pulse turns on the Pump for ~1 sec just to pressurize the rail for start up. Apparently the PCM is only turning on when it detects the rpm pulse from a running engine. I will have to look at the EVTM for my 93 (prob same as 91) and see which leed controls the signal to the PCM of key on. Maybe its the main Pwr on leed.
