I hate to be a nit picker but its been said a few times. Sure highboys are from 67 but it stops at 77. Then its 77.5 to 79. 77 means first half of the year and 77.5 begins the mid year model. So its 67-77 and 77.5-79. Ok Im done now.
Well if you want to get really technical it's until sequence number Y20,001...as I stated earlier. So who knows, that could stop at 77.333 or 77.75. But I've seen Numberdummy say until 77.5, so that's what I'm gonna stick with.
By the way just out of curosity. Do any of you know a book that i could get that just gives you backround and specifications of the F-100, F150 and F250 for 1973 to 1979? Thanks, leidy
Very good question. Ebay usually has the Ford Shop Books for a decent price, if your just looking for numbers as far as an engine rebuild, go cheap depending on how picky u are and get yourself a haynes book.
one was the Free-Wheeling package. if the truck has a styleside bed then the truck usually has rainbow stripes. if it's a flareside bed then the truck had thin stipes outlining the curves and lines of the truck.
another was the Explorer package which was the Ranger Lariat with some stripes going down the side of the truck.
the last was the Ranger XLT Luxury. these are very rare. they were the Ranger Lariat before the Ranger Lariat actually came out. luxury was what the interior was........very nice.
another was the Explorer package which was the Ranger Lariat with some stripes going down the side of the truck.

the explorer custom I believe (and i am sure someone will correct me if im wrong) was a "base" but you could add any option to it much like the regular customs. But the explorer's had special badging and striping. A hood ornament (75-79) that said explorer and I believe before that it was a hood ornament that was "explorer over the world" it was a globe and that is the nickname for it or something like that?
and pre 79 they had an Explorer badge under the stripping and bed running light, and in 79 (not sure if it carried into the 80's) it was above the stripping and bed running light.
Explorer's had special paint specific only to them but I believe you could also get the standard paint , and the stripping could not be found on any other truck, it came in different colors depending on the paint you have.
The Explorers were not "range lariat" standards, in fact I dont know if you could get the lariat package within the Explorer.
Explorer Ranger's I am not to familiar with but I know that was a package and I believe it just had the standard Ranger and Explorer packages so I guess it would be the more "luxurious" of the Explorer packages.

Do all of these trucks (hiboys) have manual steering. Or did they put power steering in them. I'm not quite sure. Also, with the gas tank behind the cab is there any type of safety concern. I'm all for adventure but don't really feel like lighting on fire
Thanks, Leidy
