4wd wont engage

Hey there everyone, I have a 2000 F350 CC and the 4wd is not engaging.I turn the switch in cab and the 4wd light comes on and I hear the servo motor switch. Nothing. I can engage them manually and they work great. Also I tried the vacuum leak test. I put the heater on front vent, switched ESOF, and waited to see if the heater defaulted to defrost. Nothing. Also tried to "learn" ESOF to work as posted an earlier post. Nothing.
Should I vacuum test both front hubs with a vaccum gauge or is the default defrost a reliable test. Any other options.
Thanks,
Ken

the hubs still may not be getting vacuum if the defrost & inside heater controls work. At least you know your vacuum pump is working. You'll have to trace the vacuum tubing from the tank to the hubs first, then it is possible if you don't have a leak there to go to the hubs themselves which could be leaking.

Also check that your 4x4 vacuum solenoid is operational. It is located on the passenger side fender under the hood right next to the vacuum pump.

Did a vacuum test on both hubs, they didn't hold vacuum. Then I took some compressed air and blew some into the hub and could feel and hear the air escaping. I did not use very much pressure and the drivers side was worse than the passenger side.I have seen the posts on replacing the inner hub seals, and it looks like a big job.

The axle vacuum seals are the ones that need replacing.

The right side is all done and holding vaccum. Left side today with hopefully same results.
