i know it would be an enginering nightmare but would it even be physically possible to put a front 4wd straight axle on the back of a pickup and make 4 wheel steering?
If you wanted to do it, you could use a hydraulic steering setup. They have steering valves that hook to the steering column, and just hoses come out. Then you mount hydraulic cylinders on the steering linkage. Of course you have to have a engine driven hydraulic pump.
But all this would have to be used off-road. I don't think the "drive by fluid" system is legal to use on the highway. They do make the valves where you could put it inline with the original steering shaft, and keep the stock front steering, so that may be a legal way to do it.
Actually, this question is a little off-topic for the pre-powerstroke diesel forum, but it does tend to get boring here sometimes with the "my truck won't start" threads.
I don't think they can say anything if you put it on your truck, who would possibly know. How does the four wheel steering on the new chevrolet trucks work? A front axle in the back wouldn't work since the drive shaft doesn't go in the center.
the Quadra-Steer GM used to offer is no longer available, dunno about technical issues but there sure wasn't much of customer interest in it. If you flip a front axle around I wouldn't worry much about the driveline angle, it's the whole camber/caster stuff that will likely be way outta wack...
