Stock or Level 2 towing???

I have an edge and was wondering what people had experience with it towing. I will be towing a trailer with 3000lbs to Stuart, Va. I want to get the best MPG on my trip. So should I run stock or level 2 towing on my edge. I have noticed that on level 2 you have better response, diffrent shift patterns and higher rpms before down shifting. Which I think will use more fuel but might perform better. Any info or help will be great. 07 f150, 5.4 with volant intake, single in dual out exhaust, and edge.

Well i have an o6 FX4 with the 5.4 Edge box 3-inch flowmaster exhaust throttle body spacer K&N air intake and i tow on 2 and 3. and the weight goes from 2000lbs to 9000 lbs. I belive i get the same between 2 and 3. As for towing in the stock form. If thats what i wanted i would not have spent the 400.00's on the Edge box. Use 2 or 3 and go for it. I'm also spinning 35/12.50/18 nitto mud grappler tires... 44,000 miles on my truck and i have been towing for at least 20,000 of them... My truck is clean and i take care of it so i hope it treats me well. What are you driving around in most of the time? I use 2 and 3... Never use the stk setting. When i went with the bigger tires i also changed my shift points so all matched up well.

Well I usually run level 2. But that doesnt give me better mileage then stock. When you use level 2 it asks you if you want to custimize? if you pick yes do you have to manually change all the shift point, redlines, wot settings. Or is it already changed and then it lets you custimize from that point.

I am on level 2 (07 5.4 XLT SCAB 3.73 LS) and tow a landscape trailer on regular bases. The trailer goes from 3000 to 7000 lbs depending on the job. The truck performs much better in level 2 than stock. Gas milage was better in level 2 for about half a day then my right foot become heavier after that ..... but I am enjoying it.

I would agree that the truck runs better on level 2. But have you seen an increase or decrease in mileage? And not when your foot is heavy.

I wouldn't tow in level 3 because the fuel mixture is actually leaned out at WOT for more power and the timing curve is kicked up. Could be a problem tot he tops of your pistons!. Level two is fatter and provides better protection against detonation, plus a less aggressive timing curve. I gained a solid half a mpg on level 2, which was hard to see unless you are very consistent with the way you drive and the way you check.
