E4OD drained on the road
I was driving in the Texas Panhandle on Saturday morning. The temp outside was about 25 degrees. I had driven 90 miles at 55mph and everything was fine.
Since I was running late, I kicked the speed up to 60-65. I stopped in Lamesa - about 40 miles later to check the map and saw all of the transmission fluid draining out on the ground.
Could this have been because the transmission overheated or something else? I got an estimate for a partial rebuild of $800.
Any comments?
Thanks in advance
If it coming out the vent then the first thing that comes to mind would be that if it was just a little bit overfilled it could have just vented the excess fluid. E40Ds have alot of fluid, when fluid gets hot it expands, it can raise the level enough to leak from the vent.
Check the fluid level, if it is normal or full then it was probably overfilled.
If its low it might have a problem with the front seal area, it can leak out the front when hot if the pump bushing is worn.
