problems with ford ranger

I have a 2003 ford ranger edge with the 3.0l engine. It started acting up today so i brought it to get checked because the check engine light came on. Three codes where pulled p0300, p0306, and p0313. They were multiple/random cylinders misfiring, cylinder 6 misfire, and first misfire at 1000 rpm. I have replaced the plugs and coil and still have the trouble. any suggestions would be helpful. PS, someone suggested the ignition module but don't know.

Check the fuel pressure. It should read about 56psi +/-8psi with the engine running.

Any other codes, such as a PO300 o PO340 (cam sensor)? A faulty cam sensor signal could cause fuel injection timing problems.

If it's not a fuel delivery problem, then I would suspect a base engine concern (burnt valves, head or intake gasket issues, etc.). A full compression test might be a good idea, as well.

I put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in it and it has gotten better and the light even went off, but it still isnt at 100 percent. believe it or not the truck only has 9572 miles original on it so the engine should be alright.

I vote for another bottle of injection cleaner. driving 1900 miles/year is about 36 miles a week... Your fuel could very well be turning to varnish, and you should be putting 'Stabil', or another fuel preservative into the tank every other fill up... as a suggestion. Or start driving more. I think your injectors are crudded up. When you do drive, do you get it warmed up all the way, such as driving in traffic or on the freeway for ~20 miles? A long trip, say 1 hour each way, would flow enough cleaner to possible get those injectors working well. Hopefully.

I have a 2003 Ranger 3.0

I have had an ongoing problem with my ranger and its always cylinder six. I have changed plugs, wires, coil pack and injectors and still have misfire and check engine light, I have been dealing with this for over two years, I believe there is some kind of design problem as I have maintained it since I purchased it new. I have also replaced the heads due to heads sinking. I will think twice before I purchase another 3.0 from Ford

Yeah, me too. I only have 249,000 miles on mine and have yet to remove the rocker arm covers. They sure don't know how to build 'em any more.

If you have problems regularly with one cylinder alone, perhaps you could inspect valve lift and compression to determine if it is a mechanical fault. Most times, that will show in a low rpm miss. A worn or defective cam lobe will cause higher rpm misfire as it will affect flow more at higher rpms. You can run at idle with lower intake or exhaust flow as the power demand is low, but not so much at higher. If you have swapped injectors and/or replaced plugs to no avail, and the ignition components are verified good, I dunno what's left.
BTW this thread is over 6 years old. If you want your problem responded to, start one of your own to get more interest.
