I'm looking to swap suspension from an 82 f150 to an 85 frame donor. is there anything i should be aware of? they are both single cab short bed single tanks too.
i dont think so. best of my memory the 2wd frames have the spot for the front axle to make it a 4x4 just the front axle aint there thats why its so easy to make these trucks in to 4wd
ok, good. Thats what I figured. Why spend extra money to develop 2 different frames when you can just make one to fit both right?
Also, anyone know of a good book that goes through the steps of building a 302 from the ground up? I mean like all the accessories, wiring, and that sort of stuff to? I took it apart like 2 years ago and have since forgotten what goes where, and what I even need
well hold on a second, there are differences - the spring hangers are different, the front spring/shock towers are different, on the HD option for 4x4s the big cross member up front is wider.
these are all bolt ons (after you cut some rivets off) but that means....they are all bolt ons. the 2wd frame wont have the right thing.
unfortunately there's not much left of the 4x4 frame. it's spent its life on the coast of rhode island Its the frame and some body panels of the 4x2, and then the suspension, drivetrain and interior of the 4x4 that are going to be put together.
hang on with the cab swapping ideas. It doesnt have to be that hard.
The 80-96 F150's will all interchange chassis and driveline components without and modding. You can take a TTB 44 from a 96 F150 and throw it in a 1980 2wd F150.
There is no F150 HD44, and all F150 engine x members are the same.
When you start talking F250 and 350 4x4s its a deal breaker because the axle pivots are in a diff spot, and they are leaf sprung. But if you have a 2wd F250/350 you wanna make a 1/2ton 4x4 IIRC the F150 gear should swap in the front as a bolt in.
You will need the tranny t-case combo from the donor 4x4 as well as the rear axle (unless the gearing in the 2wd diff matches the 4x4 front)
so in short, everything you need to make your 2wd into 4wd is on the 4x4 chassis.
ok, you lost me here. I don't really know where any 250/350 stuff came in, they're both 150's.
As for your last statement about everything to make the 4x2 into a 4x4 is on the 4x4 chassis......thats what I'm doing. swapping everything from the 4x4 onto the 4x2. Are we talking about something different here? I'm not using any driveline componants from anything except the 4x4, for sentimental reasons.

i was referencing this... Good luck with the project, its quite simple. Start hitting all the nuts n bolts with some penetrating oil for a week or so, it will make removal a lil easier.
