2.9 engine ?
i am looking into buying an 88 ranger 2.9l with an auto tranny but the truck seems to have fuel problems or something cause it wont stay running. it will start but shut off. my main ? is how good would this truck hold up playing in the mud? i dont plan to mud bog just throw it around in the mud on the weekends. can the 2.9 handle it, how about some 33 inch tires? what ever info you guys can help me with i greatly appreciate it. thanx

I love 2.9L myself but I'd bet that tranny would need overhauling & ideally tweaks for heavy duty use. Than a bigger rear axle. The engine should hold up nicely if you can get the rest right. I think it could be a lot of work to get the engine just so of course.
