I currently own a 1977 F-150 custom 4x4 with a 302/np205 set up, i am going to put a 408 windsor and C-6 combo and was wanting to know if i am going to have to modify my driveshaft length or get a custom one made. I was hoping someone has done this before and could help me out, thanks
Which transmission are you using now? WHich transmission to transfer case adapter are you currently running?
If your transmission length is the same and you can run the same length adapter, then your t-case will be in the same location, and you will not have to change driveshafts.
If your transmission length and / or the adapter length changes, it will require a new front shaft as well as a new rear shaft.
Engines will not have any effect on the length of the shafts provided that they are still mounted in the same location.
The 435 is shorter than the C6, so you will have to deal with driveshaft length issues.
You will also be foreced ro use a long adapter if you intend to run anything larger than a 1310 front u-joint. If you try to use a 1350 or a double cardan joint, it will hit the transmission pan. Using the longer adapter also helps with some front driveshaft issues if your ride is lifted.
Thanks for the info, where might i look to find the adaptor that i will need ?, also is there any chance in hell the adaptor i got from my C-6 that came out of a 92 F-250 will bolt up
Look in the junkyards. Bring a camera, and a tape measure. That is the cheapest way to solve your problems IMO. Same with the driveshafts, buy em used, have em rebuilt(at least the front anyways)
