Trouble shootin question

Hi guys, just joined the site and it looks like yall have a good bit of knowlege. I have two problems, first this is about my 88 f-350 7.3. Its been startin real sluggish in the mournings now that it is getting colder, havent been able to fine a plug to plug it in but thanks to another post figured out that i just need to pick a cord up for it. But today I went to fire it up and it started ran real rough and then shut off. Tried to start it again and it just did alot of cranking till i started to lose juice. Tried it agian 2nite and the same problem. Now i did notice that after the wts lite goes out i am here a clicking coming from somwhere around the carb/bowl, and i checked the only and it almost looks like its watared down but my rad is full. Any help would be apreciated. The other issue is that if I pump my brakes 2-4 times I loose the power asist, is that normal or is my vacum pump maybe bad? Thanks Josh

gotmudd02,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

How long is the wait to start light on?

Probably a couple burnt glow plugs if less than 10 seconds.

The clicking is normal, the glow plugs reheating.

Sounds like the vacuum pump is getting weak for the brake problem.

You can do a vacuum test on the vacuum pump just google: cdnsarguy vacuum test

Not supposed to PUMP brakes..........just press to apply...........if you get 4 pumps your doing good.

listen to dave i cant emphasize that enough he knows his stuff.another thing you can do is make sure your batteries and starter are both fine one or both could be getting weak.it takes alot to spin over these compression monsters.is your exhaust smoking when your turning it over?

I agree with the other guys, you probably need glow plugs for the slow start. However I also think you have an air leak in the fuel system which is allowing the fuel to drain back when the truck sits for a while. Have a good look round the fuel lines, especially the fuel return lines at the injectors, for signs of hardened/cracked flexi pipes. Once you have the batteries recharged bleed the fuel lines.

Well I will have to check the fuel lines tommrow i did replace all of the glow plugs minus one because it looked like the connector was goin to break if i pulled it off, any body know where i can get the connectors? Still havin the same problem, I think it was smoking a little when it was cranking. I did get it to start up and then reved it up to 2500 to try and keep it runnin, but it just blew a slew of smoke out of the exhaust and then shut off. Im lost
