ECU Replacement Procedure
I'll be replacing the ECU on a '89 F150 4x4 5 speed 4.9 federal truck in the next couple days and wondered if there is any special procedure I need to follow to prevent static damage to the electronics. I have read that the installer should "ground" himself before touching the ECU. I'm worried I will damage the computer if I expose it to a static charge. Does anyone have any advice that might prevent an expensive computer from being damaged?

Grab some metal on your truck before you grab the computer, and you should be fine. Really, most of these are pretty well protected, but you might as well be careful.
I don't know about the exact replacement procedure on these trucks, but I'll bet that it starts with ' disconnect the negative battery cable'.
