This morning my truck stalled out while approaching a stop sign. Looking through similar forums I'm leaning towards a vacuum leak. While inspecting I found the EGR tube broken from the exhaust manifold. The pipe flange is still there but no other parts of the compression fitting, I can't tell what's left it appears some rusted and damaged threads but not sure. I am looking for someone who has done a similar fix with out replacing the entire manifold. With everything as rusted up as it is I really don't want to get into all of that. I've thought about some sort of pipe sleeve with clamps high & low but am not sure what will hold up to the heat plus seal when clamped. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
when you start your truck up in the morning, does it stall right away ? stalls a couple of times and runs fine the rest of the day ? if so, it needs idle air control valve, common problem of fords
i will be fixing the problem of the egr tube myself. new egr tube, manifold, studs and nuts. the only problem is the bolts will more than likely break. thus removing broken studs, o what a job that is!!!!!!
The broken EGR tube should have caused a CEL lamp and one or more P04XX codes.
The stalling is something else involving the intake tract such as the IAC or a vacuum leak.
The EGR system is emissions test and operation related only plus it is the source of exhaust gas feed back during OD cruise. This usually dosn't cause stalling unless the EGR hangs open for some reason.
