thanks- hopefully the salesman was just trying to account for the mileage and is wrong about towing the truck-
I havent found ANY mechanical problems as of yet- so I'll keep my fingers crossed
Just ask them for the original owner's name/number and find out for yourself. The dealer may want to call the previous owner first to find out if it's ok to give his number to you.
I've worked at small dealerships and never had a problem trying to help out a customer.
If it just has the single 2" square opening in the front that is just a front mounted hitch! if it was towed behind a motor home it would have 2 brackets on either side of the front bumper, usually about 1" square.
If you want it to tow exceptional then put in the F250 springs along with the rear sway bar, skip the add-a-leaves. If you want to tow a trailer then I wouldn`t put a 4" lift under it. that along with the larger tires will hurt it`s towing performance. you found a needle in a haystack in that the X has 4.30 gears. going with larger tires will only bring the overall gear ratio down, probably closer to 3.73 maybe 3.90. i towed my current TT with the 3.73`s and it didn`t like it very well. the 4.30`s are perfect.
Thanks for the info camper- But I dont think putting 4" under the excursion is going to have an effect on the towing- I had a 2000 F250 crew cab 4x4, which sits higher than the x, and it towed better when I put the lift in it. Now granted it was a 7.3 PSD with 3.73's... I'm hoping that the V-10 would be able to handle tha same camper with a ratio some where in the 3.90 area- Also understand that I will only pull the camper (on average) about 6 times a year- the rest of the time its a family hauler.
Besides that - I still have just a little bit of kid in me that I dont want to let go of!!!!!
Although I do agree that too much lift would have an adverse effect on towing- I dont think that I'm there....yet!!
