With the resent election of our new Mayor in Wendover Nevada we have hope for our town. The mayor has stated that he is going to reopen negotiations to anex part of Utah into Nevada. This even has Congressional approval but was delayed.
So Nevada may be growing again. If this happens Wendover, Utah will become part of Wendover Nevada.
You're gonna have to push a lot farther than that to get any skiing out of the deal.
You can ski at Charleston anyway, and that's not 400 miles away.
Bonneville would be a good pick-up.
Have you ever skied at Charleston? It's not good. Most people here go to Brian Head, and I think that's iffy. Bonneville would be cool though. Never seen dry lake racing.
About 7 or 8 years ago, my neighbor, my brother who was down from Seattle and I snow skied on Charleston and water skied on lake Mead all in the same day. I can't remember who's idea it was, probably my brother, but we had a blast.
I have a feeling the casinos may not be in favor. They will have to foot the bill for new schools etc. Most of their workers live on the Utah side so Utah has to pay ALL the bills for them. The Nevada side only has the bosses houses & kids to deal with. It will be interesting to see. Utah has everything to gain out of the deal. Nevada will basically get more expense than benefits as I see it. Utah side is about getto & run down.
It is like Needles Ca wants to be a part of Nevada. They are trying to become part of Clark Co. The casinos would gain a part of I-40 for big casinos plus more river property for casinos. See in Nevada the casinos rule what goes on if it is a gain for them with little cost then they are interested, but Wendover Utah I'm not to sure that will make them MONEY without some major expense.
My wife & I were born & raised in Nevada & we aren't young, so I watched this for many many years.
Yea, we would have to take on the debt that Wendover, UT has gotten itself into. That was one of the reasons that it was delayed a few years ago when the airport put in a new $3 million runway. But Paganeti (sp?) is okay with it. Or so I here.
As for the schools, they are already there. The teachers salary would just about double. They currently make about half of what the Nevada side makes.
The biggest expense I see coming is updating the water lines and roads. UT. has been working on the roads but I hear that the water lines are still clay pipe.
