OK guys, this probably could be alot of different things, but what is the best way to diagnose with no codes? It just starting running 'rough' in overdrive at highway speeds the other day but seems to have gotten slightly worse as now it does it in all gears. It's a stutter/stumble that comes and goes under load. idles fine and all else seems normal. The last time it ran rough I cleaned the MAF sensor and it fixed it right up, but I just cleaned it this time and no help.
feels like it could be a sensor or electronic but with no codes who knows? would the coil pack issues others have had cause something like this and how to check? what else could it be and what to check first?
Help, wifes car and shes not exited about driving it till I get it fixed!!
Its a COP, actually the boot is probably split. Under low load idle conditions your not noticing the arc against your cylinder head. But under load and higher speeds it is now a faulted cylinder. You aren't getting a code because your COP has not failed yet from the arcing. You have two choices, the easiest ...wait until you have a code and it will tell you the cylinder, if you can deal with the stuttering, it may take up to two weeks or more for failure. The pain in the butt one, start undoing COPS and try to find the split one. But, by doing the pain one, you may save the COP and $45 approx and just replace the boot sleeve. This also may not seem so bad if your due for a plug replacement, then its a give me for the work to be done.
From practical experience, I can tell you that the split boot will have swollen in the port, so be prepared for a fight if it doesn't slide out easily. That is why when I replace mine I trim off the outside ribs with a razor knife before reinstall. It gives you almost a 1/8" more clearance.

Our new Ford COP’s, the Sultans of Spark(S.O.S.), have
been designed with both durability and performance in mind.
Please see them at: http://www.performancedistributors.com/soscoils.htm Quality was the main feature we stressed when we went to the
drawing board on these coils.
