The injec. tap on start up #8 ( I think) is louder then it use to be! As soon as it warms up alittle it stops. When its colder out its not as loud, but when the temp. is around 40 on up it is loud tap! Much louder then a year ago! I only got 3000 miles on this oil change, looks new yet. I tryed different brand of oil 15-40w, still does it! This has got me wondering? Anybody else notice this, or may I have a problem on hand.
Dino! Just different brand names! Used to get the oil changed from the ford dealer, now take it to a friends garage. Don't recall the brand name at the last oil change, but this past oil change I used rotellea dino ( sorry if i spell it wrong) 15w40, taping noise just as loud..
Long time no talk bud, hows everything?? I had a tapping problem also about a week ago and put some diesel Kleen in it. I notice when i run a bio blend(5%) it runs quite. Try some bioblend if you can.
Hey, Mike miss you guys too! Just on FTE at different times now do to 3rd shift!! Got to try some bio, a station near me sell 5% see if it helps! ( I just filled up yesterday ) I do use diesel kleen, added more of it this fillup, no change in noise yet!
Mine is better when its cold in the morning, the taping is not loud. When its 40 or above at first start up its much louder than it used to be! Starts up no problem! Got new batts. about year and a half ago, GPR, and the glow plugs tested good! I read another post not to long ago about checking the bolts that hold down the inj. can't remember?
Thank you, Jim!! I don't have one that reads inch pounds only ft lbs, is there a way to break this down to ft lbs? Or should i say up to ft lbs? Or do i have to buy one? And does anyone have a pic of the bolts i need to check under the valve cover??

1 ft l = 12 inch lb but most ft lb torque wrenches start at 30 ft lbs
120 lb-in is 10 lb-ft. Just be careful if you don't have a quality torque wrench. If 10 lb-ft is the lowest setting on your wrench, I don't know how accurate it will be.
The rocker arm pedestal bolts are circled in red, and the injector hold down bolt is circled in blue. I circled the bolts on just one cylinder, but you should get the idea.

Thank you, Chris! Going to check this after hunting season, mid. december. A friend of mine said he has one that can read inch# ( thanks for the pic ) How many bolts for the inj. 3? I thought i read you can only get to 2 of them though, just guessing never had the valve cover off
There are 2 bolts for each injector. The lower one circled in blue is the only one you need to worry about since the injector is held in place with a plate that acts as a fulcrum. The other bolt isn't accessible unless you remove the injector solenoid, so don't bother with that one.
