hi all this is probley my first post
when i was 14 now 28 me and my dad got a 48 f1 we chopped the top suicide the doors and put a 78 ltd front end under it
but that is about as far as we got before dad broke his back at work
well they (mom/dad) fell on hard times and moved from NE to Kc MO to stay with my sister
and took the truck
well about 6+ yr ago sister got sick of looking at it they gave it away
well now I'm living in kc and went past a junk yard a saw it
so long to short
the guy is willing to sell but i have got to take 3 trucks for $1500
my old 48 frame & cab
a 51 cab box & frame no front clip well there is one it is off my truck but ended up in the back of the 51
and another 51 front clip cab frame & drive train 6cly no box good title
What are the condition of the parts? If they're solid, or little rust through, then it's worth the $1500 in parts alone. Plus, you can add the price of nostalgia. If this is the truck you and your dad worked on I would think it has a little more added value for you that most everyone else wouldn't see.
I say go for it, take inventory of all of the parts to make sure you have enough, or as much as you can, to make one decent truck and sell the rest to help recoup your initial $1500 investment.
No matter how good of a deal you find on another truck, it will never be one from your past. You don't come across something that's 14 years old to you like that everyday!
I honestly think you'd greatly regret passing it up, even if the thing is rusted out to death, its a part of your history, and no other build will ever feel the same.
Just get the trucks and deal with the problems later. There is a matter here that goes beyond the monitary value. I now regret letting all those vehicles go that were part of my past that I could have passed on to my son.
Beside the emotional feelings you will have if you don't, there is one advantage that you have with the truck that no one else has mentioned. And that is that YOU did the modifications on the truck and you KNOW the truck. So, getting it back up to speed will be a snap.
As far as the other two, you can probably part them out and recover your entire investment on spares not to mention the availability of parts for your restoration.
Just do it!
I look forward to seeing more posts here when you get it and start working on it!
Best wishes,
Julie!
PS You can always store them in your sisters yard for awhile
go for it . i for one have way to many " if i had it to do again " type stories and missed opportunities including old vehicles of mine and other very close relatives , and am still kicking myself in the a--!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks all that helps out a lot
for the most part the rust is not that bad
i will go up there on mon and talk with the guy and get pics
i was not sure if i could sell the parts
but talking with you guys has sparked me and got me going
JUST DO IT!! I wish I could find my first 1956 f100 that was my Dad's and have been looking for 5 yrs. Just understand that this is your old truck---guaranteed? then buy it and figure the rest out later.
