For a rear end just buy a Detroit autolocker. You really don't need to manually be able to lock the back in, and after awhile you'll know what it takes to lock and unlock the diff while moving. There are tons of guys driving autolockers on snow and ice without any problems, so save the coin and go the cheaper route.
